NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - A Guadalupe County sheriff's deputy was injured after authorities say a woman choked him with his radio cord while he struggled with a man accused of breaking into a tenant's home.

Toya Robinson, 55, of New Braunfels, was arrested following the confrontation. Authorities are still searching for James Waugh, who escaped during the struggle.

Guadalupe County sheriff's deputies were initially called to the 700 block of Ridge Road after receiving a report that Waugh, identified as the landlord, had broken into a tenant's residence while she was away.

A deputy encountered a man leaving the area and attempted to confront him, according to the Sheriff's Office. Waugh ran back into the residence.

As the deputy attempted to take Waugh into custody, authorities said Robinson assaulted the deputy.

Waugh then tried to take the deputy's Taser.

During the struggle, Robinson grabbed the deputy's radio cord and used it to choke him, according to the Sheriff's Office. The deputy managed to break free, but Waugh escaped while the confrontation was unfolding.

Additional deputies arrived and took Robinson into custody.

The New Braunfels Police Department joined the search for Waugh, using K-9 teams and drones, but officers were unable to locate him.

The injured deputy was transported to Resolute Hospital for treatment. He was later released with minor injuries.

Robinson was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a public servant and interference with public duties.

Authorities have obtained arrest warrants for Waugh on charges of attempting to take a weapon from an officer, evading arrest or detention, and resisting arrest, search or transport.
