BOERNE, Texas - A 27-year-old Boerne man who fled to Mexico while free on bond has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after a Kendall County jury convicted him of sexually assaulting a young teenage girl.
Sean Patrick Long was sentenced August 27, 2026, by visiting Judge Sid Harle in the 451st District Court. Long was convicted July 23 of two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and two counts of Sexual Assault of a Child.
The case began April 17, 2024, when Boerne Police Detective James Estrada received a report that Long had sexually assaulted a teenage girl.
During the investigation, the victim told authorities that Long committed numerous sexual acts against her between October 2023 and April 2024. She was 13 years old when the abuse began, according to prosecutors.
Long was arrested and later released on bond, but authorities said he fled to Mexico while the criminal case was pending.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the effort to locate Long. Mexican authorities eventually captured him, and he was returned to the United States and placed in the custody of the Kendall County Sheriff's Office.
Long's jury trial lasted nearly two weeks and was interrupted by flooding in mid-July. On July 23, the Kendall County jury returned guilty verdicts on all four charges.
During Thursday's sentencing hearing, prosecutors presented testimony from additional victims and other witnesses from Long's past. The state also introduced evidence of Long's previous convictions and an assault prosecutors said he recently committed while incarcerated in the county jail.
The Kendall County Criminal District Attorney's Office asked the court to sentence Long to 50 years in prison. Judge Harle instead imposed a 30-year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on all charges.
“It’s important that our office and our community show these child victims that they will be supported and believed when they come forward against their abusers,” Kendall County Criminal District Attorney Nicole Bishop said. “I’m thankful that the jury showed that through their verdict and the Judge reflected that in his sentence.”
Assistant Criminal District Attorney Andrew Fields also praised the victim for facing Long during the court proceedings.
“The courage the victim displayed throughout this process and the bravery she showed while facing her abuser in the courtroom is commendable,” Fields said. “I am thankful to the jury and the court that this will be a significant step towards her healing.”
The Boerne Police Department investigated the case. Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Andrew Fields and Steven Belt prosecuted Long on behalf of the state.
