STOCKDALE, TX — A former Stockdale Independent School District teacher has been sentenced to 13 years in state prison following convictions for offenses involving a student, prosecutors announced.
Peter Aaron Leach was sentenced in Wilson County to serve 13 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) after entering pleas related to an improper relationship with a minor student.
Leach waived his right to a jury trial and entered no-contest pleas to two second-degree felony charges: Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and Indecency with a Child by Contact. Those pleas were entered under an agreed punishment cap of 15 years in prison.
Additionally, Leach entered open pleas—leaving punishment entirely to the discretion of the court—for the offenses of Child Grooming and Tampering with Physical Evidence, both of which carry a statutory range of two to 10 years in prison.
During the sentencing hearing:
The Prosecution requested the maximum 15-year prison term permitted under the cap.
The Defense requested deferred adjudication community supervision (probation).
After hearing testimony from the victim, reviewing a Sex Offender Evaluation, hearing from the defendant's treatment counselor, and examining a presentence investigation (PSI) report prepared by Community Supervision Officer Taylor Harbour, the court rejected the defense's request for probation.
The judge handed down 13-year terms for the improper relationship and indecency convictions, and 10-year terms for the grooming and tampering counts. All sentences will run concurrently, resulting in a total 13-year prison sentence.
