Del Rio Man Arrested After Threatening Woman at Park and Assaulting Officer

DEL RIO, Texas — A Del Rio man was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly threatening a woman at a local park and later assaulting a police officer while attempting to evade arrest, according to the Del Rio Police Department.

At approximately 1:55 p.m. on June 9, 2026, officers responded to Moore Park near 99 South Bedell Avenue following a report of a suspicious person.

The caller told police she had pepper-sprayed a man who allegedly threatened to harm her.

According to investigators, the woman said she was swimming with family members when she noticed a man following her through the park.

The woman reported that the suspect suddenly ran toward her while holding two objects she believed to be bladed weapons and made verbal threats that caused her to fear for her safety.

In response, she used pepper spray on the suspect, who then fled the area on foot.

Responding officers located the man nearby as he attempted to wash pepper spray residue from his face.

Police said that when officers attempted to detain him, he fled on foot, leading to a brief pursuit.

During the chase, investigators said the suspect kicked an officer, striking the officer's leg and causing pain and discomfort.

Officers were able to subdue the suspect and take him into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Nathan Wayne Medrano.

Medrano was arrested and charged with:

  • Terroristic Threat Causing Fear of Imminent Serious Bodily Injury
  • Evading Arrest or Detention
  • Assault on a Peace Officer
  • Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transportation

Following his arrest, Medrano was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing before being transferred to the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
