Man Charged with Murder After Fatal RV Fire in Medina County

Manuel Sanchez

MEDINA COUNTY, Texas — A man has been charged with murder following a deadly RV fire that left one person dead, according to the Medina County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency crews responded April 30 to a reported RV fire in the 200 block of County Road 173 South, with assistance from the Hondo Police Department.

When officers arrived, they identified a possible suspect at the scene. Manuel Sanchez, 32, was detained and taken into custody.

During the investigation, deputies discovered a victim inside the RV. The individual was later identified as 70-year-old Jose Romeo Ybarra and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sanchez was initially booked into the Medina County Jail on charges including harassment of a public servant, interference with public duties and obstruction or retaliation.

Authorities said additional evidence later led to upgraded charges of murder and arson causing bodily injury or death. Bonds for those charges were set at $500,000 each.

Sheriff Randy Brown said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as more information becomes available.
