NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Three people were injured in an early morning shooting in downtown New Braunfels, and a suspect is now in custody, according to the New Braunfels Police Department.
Officers responded around 12:45 a.m. May 3 to reports of multiple gunshots in the 100 block of North Seguin Avenue. When they arrived, they located three victims, two adult males and one adult female. Officers began providing medical aid until emergency responders arrived.
Authorities said a 25-year-old male and a 25-year-old female, both from New Braunfels, were transported to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital for treatment. A 27-year-old male was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center. All three victims are listed in stable condition.
Investigators determined the shooting stemmed from an earlier physical altercation involving the two male victims and the suspect. Police said the suspect later entered a vehicle, located the victims walking downtown and fired multiple rounds from a handgun while driving away.
Officials believe the two male victims were the intended targets, while the female victim was an uninvolved bystander.
The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Josiah Anthony Arevalo of New Braunfels. Officers located him shortly after the incident, and he surrendered without incident. He was booked into the Comal County Jail and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
