ZAVALA COUNTY, Texas - A woman was arrested early Sunday morning after deputies responded to a reported fight outside Seventh Ave Night Club and discovered a victim suffering a serious head injury, according to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies conducting preventative patrols in the area received a 911 call reporting a fight in progress. Upon arrival, deputies intervened in a physical altercation involving two women on the ground.
Investigators determined that Rita Saenz, 43, allegedly struck another woman with a bottle, causing a significant laceration to the victim’s forehead. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and determined the victim required stitches for her injuries.
During Saenz’s apprehension, authorities said a bystander, identified as John Henry Torres, 25, repeatedly ignored lawful commands and physically obstructed deputies as they worked to secure the scene. Torres was detained and later released with citations.
Saenz was taken into custody and transported to the Zavala County Jail. She faces a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony.
