New Braunfels Police Investigation Leads to 40-Year Sentence for Child Sex Abuser

Ricardo Loza III

COMAL COUNTY, Texas - A Comal County court sentenced Ricardo Loza III, 41, of San Antonio, to 40 years in prison after he was convicted of two counts of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.

A jury found Loza guilty on September 25, 2025. Visiting Judge Robert Updegrove determined the punishment on September 29, sentencing Loza to the maximum of 20 years for each count. Judge Updegrove granted the prosecution's request to stack the sentences, meaning Loza must complete both 20-year terms consecutively.

Details of the Crime and Trial

The jury heard testimony that Loza had ongoing access to the child victim, whose abuse began during the summer of 2022 when she was only eight years old. The victim testified the abuse occurred when Loza picked her up from school and when they were alone at home. She also recounted that Loza threatened her, saying they would both get in trouble if she told anyone.

The abuse was reported to the New Braunfels Police Department after the victim disclosed the assaults to her mother. The Comal County District Attorney's Office recognized the victim's "tremendous courage" for bravely facing her abuser in court.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Karlei Neufeld and Henna Le Vasseur, with key investigative work performed by New Braunfels Police Department Detective David Schroeder.
