Man Arrested in San Antonio for Fatal Kemah Shooting

James Nathan Malo

The Kemah Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on October 12, 2025, in the 400 block of Bay Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found two adult victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to UTMB Clear Lake Hospital for treatment. One of the victims, identified as 30-year-old Richard Samora, later died from his injuries. The second victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

The suspected shooter, 40-year-old James Nathan Malo, was initially detained and questioned the night of the incident but was released due to insufficient evidence. Following an extensive investigation that included witness interviews and a review of surveillance footage, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office accepted a murder charge against Malo, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Early this morning, at approximately 7:47 a.m., Malo was located by the San Antonio Police Department in the 8300 block of Perrin Beitel Road. He was taken into custody without incident.

Malo is being transported back to the Galveston County Jail, where he faces a charge of murder.

The Kemah Police Department credited the cooperation between its Criminal Investigations Division and the San Antonio Police Department for the successful apprehension.
