Authorities Seize 500 Pounds of Meth in San Antonio Rail Operation

More than 500 pounds of methamphetamine, valued at over $1 million, were seized Sunday morning during a multi-agency interdiction operation in San Antonio.

On September 14, 2025, officers with San Antonio Police HIDTA, DEA, Texas DPS, and Union Pacific Special Agents inspected a freight train when a narcotics detection canine alerted to a rail car in transit. A search of the car uncovered the massive stash of meth.

Officials say the case remains under investigation, with High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) detectives and agents working to determine the source and destination of the drugs.

Law enforcement leaders praised the operation as an example of strong collaboration among local, state, and federal partners to protect commercial transportation networks and keep dangerous drugs off the streets.
