Four Arrested in Bexar County Human Smuggling Operation

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas—Four individuals have been arrested and charged with smuggling of persons and engaging in organized criminal activity following an investigation into a human smuggling operation at a local truck stop.

On Friday, September 12, deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office observed what appeared to be the transfer of individuals from a semi-truck into two separate vehicles at the Love’s Truck Stop on S IH-35 Frontage Road.

Deputies conducted traffic stops on the vehicles and recovered four undocumented migrants from Mexico and Guatemala. The driver of the semi-truck was also taken into custody.

The four arrested individuals, identified as Chelsea Taylor Ann Bravo, 29; Julian Mike Garza, 23; Steven Eduardo Martinez Escamilla, 36; and Ormond Andrea Tolbert, 64, were charged with multiple counts of Smuggling of Persons and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. Garza also faces a charge for Violation of Protective Order, and Escamilla has an Immigration Hold for Illegal Re-entry.

One of the migrants was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a leg injury. All suspects were booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
