On Friday, September 5, 2025, at approximately 3:22 PM, the Hondo Police Department was dispatched to Peerless Equipment, located at 313 US 90 East, after reports of a male suspect attempting to harm an infant by throwing the child into a dumpster. Multiple employees witnessed the incident and immediately took action to protect the child, successfully restraining the suspect until law enforcement arrived.
The suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Kyle Bruce of San Antonio, was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Medina County Jail. He has been charged with Felony Endangering a Child and Felony Injury to a Child, with additional charges expected as the investigation continues. Authorities emphasized that Bruce had no connection to Peerless Equipment.
Preliminary investigation revealed that earlier in the day, Bruce had been involved in a disturbance with the infant’s mother in Bexar County. During that incident, the mother was reportedly left at a gas station, and Bruce fled the scene with the infant. Thanks to the swift intervention of the employees at Peerless Equipment, the child was unharmed and transported to a hospital, where the infant is expected to make a full recovery.
Hondo Police Department officials praised the employees for their heroic actions, stating, “Their quick thinking and courage undoubtedly saved a life.” The department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and anticipates additional charges against Bruce.
The investigation remains active.
