Hondo Family Escapes Overnight House Fire Thanks to Quick Response from Medina County Firefighters

Hondo, TX – Just before 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26th, firefighters from Medina County Fire Department Stations 60 and 10, along with EMS crews from Station 30, were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Ave B near 15th Street in the City of Hondo.

The residents awoke to their home filled with smoke but were able to safely evacuate before first responders arrived. Within eight minutes of dispatch, Engine 60 and Battalion 60 were on scene, finding heavy fire coming from an outside shed that had already extended into the rear corner of the home.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the external flames before moving inside, where they located and extinguished fire spreading through the kitchen and into the attic. Thanks to the crews’ rapid and decisive actions, a total loss of the home and its contents was prevented. Officials noted that any delays in response would likely have resulted in complete destruction.

Units on scene included Chief 8101, Battalion 8160, Engine 8160, Ladder 8110, and Medic R8130 from Community EMS.

The Medina County Fire Department credited the successful outcome in part to the ESD 6 Board of Commissioners, whose commitment to funding fire protection continues to make life-saving responses like this possible.
