Kyle Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2023 Buda Gas Station Murder

Defendant: Omar Galvan-Ochoa

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Hays County District Attorney Kelly Higgins announced that 29-year-old Omar Galvan-Ochoa of Kyle was found guilty of murder this week and sentenced on August 19 to life in prison and a $10,000 fine, the maximum penalty allowed under Texas law.

The case stemmed from a September 6, 2023 incident in which 46-year-old Aliaksandr Bushtser was shot and killed while filling his vehicle with gas at a Valero station in Buda. Evidence presented at trial showed Galvan-Ochoa drove into the station and shot Bushtser three times in the back in what prosecutors described as an unprovoked attack.

Detectives with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office reviewed surveillance footage from the station, which captured the suspect’s truck but not a clear license plate. Investigators later used FLOCK camera technology to identify the vehicle as belonging to Galvan-Ochoa. His identity was further confirmed when a witness, who encountered the suspect in a separate altercation shortly after the murder, provided the truck’s license plate number to 911.

Galvan-Ochoa attempted to evade law enforcement before being taken into custody.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Elizabeth Schmidt and Christopher Griffith. Schmidt credited multiple law enforcement agencies and witnesses for their roles in the investigation and trial, offering condolences to the victim’s family following the verdict.

The jury’s decision to impose a life sentence and fine concluded the trial, bringing closure nearly two years after the killing.
