ATASCOSA COUNTY, TX — A local high school student was arrested early Sunday morning, August 3, after leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash and vehicle fire.
According to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, just after 2 a.m., a deputy observed a vehicle traveling over 110 miles per hour in the 1900 block of Highway 97. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated further in an effort to evade law enforcement.
Moments later, near the intersection of Highway 97 and Corgey Road, the suspect lost control and crashed. The vehicle caught fire, but the driver managed to escape without injury.
The teen was arrested at the scene and charged with Felony Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle. Authorities suspect alcohol may have been involved, and additional charges are pending.
The investigation is ongoing.
