Kerr County Flood Death Toll Reaches 84; Drone Collision Impedes Rescue Efforts

The Kerr County Sheriff's Office provided an update today on the devastating flood fatalities, confirming that 84 deceased individuals have been recovered, including 56 adults and 28 children. Identification is pending for 22 adults and 10 children. As of 2 p.m. Central time, 10 Camp Mystic campers and one counselor remain unaccounted for.

Local teams, alongside regional, state, and federal agencies, are continuing search efforts to reunite families impacted by the tragedy. Hundreds of first responders are engaged in the ongoing operation.

Authorities are urging private boat owners to stay off the Guadalupe River and its tributaries to allow search and rescue teams to operate without interference.

In a critical development, a private drone illegally operating in restricted airspace collided with a helicopter involved in emergency operations on Monday afternoon. The helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing, taking a vital piece of response equipment out of service indefinitely.

The Sheriff's Office emphasized the preventability of the incident, stating, "Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) are not suggestions. They are federal airspace rules designed to protect lives during emergency situations. When you fly a drone in restricted areas, you’re not just breaking the law -- you’re putting first responders, emergency crews, and the public at serious risk."

The Kerrville Police Department extended its gratitude to all first responders and offered condolences to those mourning the loss of loved ones. "We are working hard to find all who are lost and return them to their families," they stated.
