Two Arrested in Credit Card Skimming Operation at Atascosa County Truck Stop

ATASCOSA COUNTY, TX – On Thursday, July 3, 2025, Atascosa County Sheriff’s Investigators uncovered a credit card skimming device installed on a commercial fuel pump at the Rodeo Truck Stop, located at the intersection of Interstate 37 and Highway 97.

Following the discovery, deputies and the Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) quickly identified the suspect who placed the device. Surveillance was conducted at the truck stop, where the suspect returned with a second individual.

Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as Louis Angel Fernandez. As law enforcement moved in to arrest him, Fernandez fled on foot into a nearby wooded area but was eventually located and taken into custody after an extensive search.

The second suspect, Marcos Castillo, was detained at the scene. Deputies discovered he was wanted out of Midland County for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.

Both Fernandez and Castillo are Cuban nationals and are believed to be part of a larger criminal organization. Fernandez was charged with Fraud and Evading Arrest. Castillo was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant.

The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office has notified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is working with federal partners to investigate and identify other members involved in the skimming operation.

Authorities urge anyone who used a credit card at the Rodeo Truck Stop within the past 48 hours to monitor their statements for suspicious or unauthorized charges.
