San Antonio Police and Texas DPS Outline Safety Plans for Ongoing Protests

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus issued a statement emphasizing the department's commitment to protecting the right to peacefully demonstrate while ensuring public safety.

“Our top priority is the safety of everyone involved—demonstrators, bystanders, and our officers,” McManus said. He added that protocols are in place to balance First Amendment rights with risk reduction. Should intervention be necessary, police actions will follow department policy with a focus on de-escalation.

McManus also confirmed ongoing coordination with state and federal law enforcement to maintain safety throughout the San Antonio community. He urged demonstrators to remain peaceful and report any suspicious or dangerous behavior by calling 911.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) also released a statement Thursday. "Last night, DPS proudly stood alongside our partners at the San Antonio Police Department to maintain order and protect state property as demonstrators exercised their First Amendment rights near San Antonio City Hall and the Alamo," DPS stated.

DPS continues to monitor planned protests across Texas and stands ready to assist law enforcement partners as needed.
