Horse Found Bound and Dumped Near Gate in Rural Bexar County

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious case of animal cruelty after a white horse was found dead and bound near the front entry of a rural property on Goeth Road Friday morning.

Deputies were dispatched to the 2100 block of Goeth Rd. around 8:00 a.m. on June 6, 2025, after a caller reported a disturbing discovery: a deceased horse with its rear legs tied together using a yellow tow strap. The strap was also fastened to a support post on the property’s entry gate.

The BCSO Crime Scene Unit processed the scene while deputies canvassed the surrounding area for witnesses or surveillance footage, but no leads were immediately found.

Later that afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., the horse was examined by veterinarians at Animal Crossing Vet Hospital. Investigators now believe the animal died elsewhere and was brought to the location, using the gate post to help unload the body.

Sheriff Javier Salazar issued a statement, saying, “The connection between cruelty to animals and even more heinous crimes against humans has been well documented. This is the main reason we created the ACE (Animal Crimes Enforcement) Team. We appreciate any and all help the public can give us in identifying those responsible for this horrible crime.”

BCSO’s Animal Crimes Enforcement deputies are working to identify the horse’s owner or anyone involved in the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office at 210-335-6000 or email BCSOTIPS@bexar.org. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
