San Antonio Woman Sentenced to 30 Years for Fatally Injuring Newborn

Samantha Elizabeth Baker

The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office announced on May 27 that 23-year-old Samantha Elizabeth Baker has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of causing serious bodily injury to her newborn son, who later died in 2023 from those injuries.

At the time of the incident, Baker told authorities she discovered her infant unresponsive. During the investigation, she later admitted to striking the baby “hard” about three times on the head with an open palm after becoming frustrated by the child’s crying, according to an arrest affidavit.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the baby suffered a fractured skull caused by blunt-force trauma.

“Today’s sentencing is a testament to the strength of our community’s commitment to protecting children and ensuring that those who harm them are held accountable,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.
