San Antonio Toddler Shot in Forehead; Brother Charged After Gun Found in Backyard

Deshayveon Kuhl

On May 25, 2025, Bexar County deputies responded to a home in the 6000 block of CandleView Court in east San Antonio after a 2-year-old child sustained a gunshot wound to the forehead. The child was transported to University Hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover.

Deputies arriving at the scene secured the home, where multiple children were present, and observed flooding caused by a water leak. Investigation revealed a bullet had struck a pipe, resulting in significant water damage.

Children in the residence reported hearing a loud noise from downstairs. During a search of the property, deputies discovered a concealed Glock handgun near a backyard gate. A shell casing was found lodged in the chamber.

17-year-old Deshayveon Kuhl, the child’s brother, admitted ownership of the firearm. He told investigators he kept the loaded gun on his dresser without a holster. Kuhl said he was upstairs when he heard the shot, then found the child bleeding and called for help.

Kuhl was arrested and booked into South Tower on charges of Making a Firearm Accessible to a Child, Injury to a Child, and Tampering with Evidence. His bond was set at $95,000.
