San Antonio Awards 244 E-Bikes Through Low-Income Rebate Pilot Program

The City of San Antonio’s Office of Sustainability has awarded 244 e-bikes as part of its Low-Income E-bike Rebate Pilot Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program.

On May 21, the first 10 recipients completed a required street skills class provided by the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) and received their new e-bikes at Pedal Guerrero Bike Shop, located at 3700 Fredericksburg Rd. The Office of Sustainability partnered with the veteran-owned business to distribute the vouchers.

“We are excited about the number of applicants we have had for this program and hope to offer it again in the future to help those with transportation needs get around town in a sustainable way,” said Doug Melnick, Chief Sustainability Officer.

The remaining recipients will continue working with city staff to complete their applications and receive their bikes. Final applicants were notified last week.

The rebate pilot program supports the SA Climate Ready Climate Action and Adaptation Plan by promoting alternative transportation methods to reduce vehicle emissions, improve air quality, and increase mobility for residents with limited transportation access.
