Alan Steve Rodriguez

A 28-year-old Kyle resident has been charged with murder following the fentanyl-related death of a 50-year-old man at Belterra Springs Apartments in Austin, Hays County, on December 31, 2024.

Deputies with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to a call regarding an unresponsive male at 761 Trinity Hills Drive. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. A preliminary investigation determined the death was related to fentanyl use.

The case was turned over to the HCSO Repeat Offender Program (ROP) Unit, which identified Alan Steve Rodriguez as the suspected distributor of the fentanyl. A separate narcotics investigation led to the seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, THC, marijuana, and multiple firearms.

Rodriguez was arrested on March 26, 2025, and booked into the Hays County Jail on multiple charges, including:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (second-degree felony)

  • Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon by a Felon (second-degree felony)

  • Possession of Marijuana (Class B misdemeanor)

Following further investigation, on April 29, 2025, the ROP Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Rodriguez on a charge of Murder (first-degree felony) in connection with the December overdose.

Rodriguez remains in custody at the Hays County Jail with a total bond of $777,000, which includes $500,000 for the murder charge. He also faces a probation violation out of Travis County.
