A six-hour standoff in the Voss Farms neighborhood ended peacefully Tuesday afternoon with the arrest of a 64-year-old New Braunfels man who allegedly pointed a weapon at Guadalupe County Constables attempting to serve a writ of possession.
The incident began around 10 a.m. in the 2000 block of Carter Lane when the constables encountered John Michael Herrmann, who was armed and barricaded inside the residence. After Herrmann allegedly pointed the weapon at them, the constables withdrew and requested assistance from the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD).
Upon arrival, NBPD determined that Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant had occurred and obtained a search and arrest warrant. Authorities confirmed that Herrmann was the only individual inside the home.
As a precaution, Voss Farms Elementary School was placed on secure status, and later, around 1 p.m., students were moved to another location for reunification with their parents.
Over the next several hours, NBPD SWAT Team members and crisis negotiators worked to persuade Herrmann to surrender. At approximately 4:15 p.m., the SWAT Team entered the home and took Herrmann into custody without further incident.
Herrmann is being transferred to the Guadalupe County Jail and faces charges including Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant, a 1st Degree Felony, with a bond set at $250,000.
No officers or civilians were injured during the incident. Investigators remain on the scene, and the public is asked to avoid the area. Authorities believe this was an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the community.
