The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has released video footage of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on March 16, 2025, in the 200 block of Birchwood Drive. The release is consistent with the department's Critical Incident Video Release Procedure.
According to SAPD, the incident began around 7:00 p.m. when a uniformed officer in a marked patrol vehicle attempted a traffic stop on Loop 410 Eastbound. The suspect vehicle exited at Vance Jackson and stopped at a gas station. The sole occupant, identified as 43-year-old Miguel Morin, exited the vehicle and fled on foot, dropping a black backpack.
The officer pursued Morin and caught up to him in the 200 block of Birchwood Drive. The officer observed a knife on Morin’s hip and deployed a taser, which was ineffective. The officer then dropped his taser, and Morin allegedly walked towards the officer and picked it up. At this point, the officer discharged his firearm multiple times, striking Morin.
EMS arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but Morin was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police reported that the backpack Morin dropped contained a handgun and narcotics. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
The involved officer, Orlando Jimenez, has four years of service with the SAPD. As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the incident.
