Uvalde Man Struck and Killed by Train in El Paso County

On March 16, 2025, at approximately 12:20 p.m., El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a train near 17250 Alameda.

Upon arrival, deputies coordinated with the Fabens Fire Department, who located the individual along the north side of the railroad tracks. The victim was unresponsive and showed no signs of life.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit were called in to assist with the investigation. Initial statements from the train engineer and operator, who witnessed the incident, indicated that the pedestrian was walking westbound on the right side of the tracks while the train was traveling eastbound.

According to their accounts, the pedestrian, later identified as 24-year-old Salazar Samson Zenas of Uvalde, TX, was wearing a hoodie with the hood up and had headphones on. Despite multiple warnings from the train’s horn, the pedestrian did not react or move out of the way, resulting in the fatal incident.

The Medical Examiner’s Office arrived at the scene and confirmed the identity of the victim through a Texas identification card found in his possession. Authorities have notified the next of kin.
