A planned robbery of a firearm turned deadly in Selma on Sunday, February 23, 2025, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old man and injuries to two others.
Selma Police Department officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired in the 16000 block of Retama Crown around 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found two individuals with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, who were transported to the hospital. A third individual, 20-year-old Hayden Lee Holt of San Antonio, was found deceased at the scene.
Multiple individuals were detained for questioning.
The Selma Criminal Investigations Division's preliminary investigation revealed that a group of individuals traveled from San Antonio to Selma to obtain a firearm. However, their intent was to rob the seller by grabbing the gun and fleeing without payment.
The attempted robbery failed, leading to an exchange of gunfire involving over thirty shots. Multiple vehicles and homes were struck, but no other victims were found.
Investigators have identified the suspects involved and obtained warrants for the charge of capital murder. The investigation is ongoing.
