On Monday, October 21, 2024, around 2:12 p.m., two Corpus Christi Police Department officers were involved in a shooting at the corner of Nueces Bay and Leopard Street. The officers were transporting a prisoner to the City Detention Center when a man approached and opened fire with a handgun. The man then aimed his weapon at the officers, prompting one officer to return fire, striking him twice.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he later passed away. Neither the officers nor the prisoner were injured during the incident.
In accordance with CCPD policy, the two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
