On Saturday, July 27, 2024, the San Antonio Police Covert Unit arrested 19-year-old Jacob Rios and a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with the May 26th, 2024, murder of 80-year-old Heidi Silkworth. The incident occurred on the 600 block of E Cesar Chavez.
Silkworth, who had just attended a family member's graduation at the Alamodome, was a passenger in a vehicle when she was struck in the head by a stray bullet. The shooting happened around 10 p.m. during an altercation between two groups of young men. According to authorities, a man began shooting at two suspects who were attempting to rob him. The suspects then opened fire, resulting in Silkworth's death.
Both suspects are charged with murder.
