San Antonio Man Sentenced to 16 Years for Armed Robbery and Firearms Trafficking

Antonio Hinojosa Jr., 21, was sentenced in federal court to 192 months in prison for the armed robbery of a Federal Firearms Licensed pawn shop and for conspiring to traffic firearms stolen during the robbery.

Court documents reveal that Hinojosa conspired with others via a social media chat to rob a pawn shop in San Antonio. On May 18, 2023, the group, dressed in gloves, masks, and dark clothing, executed the robbery, threatening store employees with firearms. They stole 14 firearms and over $8,600 worth of jewelry, then fled in a getaway truck. Hinojosa later posted photos of the stolen firearms on social media to sell them.

Hinojosa was arrested on June 26, 2023. He pleaded guilty on March 7 to conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and conspiracy to traffic firearms.

Co-defendant Joshua Michael Govea, who detained store workers at gunpoint during the robbery, pleaded guilty to robbery conspiracy and brandishing charges and was sentenced to 117 months last week. Two other co-defendants, Cesar Alan Garcia and Sebastian Louis Xavier Suarez, are awaiting trial and remain in custody. Garcia and Suarez are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
