Traffic Stop on Highway 290 By Gillespie County Deputy Leads to Major Drug Bust

On Friday, June 7, 2024, at approximately 1:16 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding in the 1600 block of West US Highway 290. The Gillespie County deputy, suspecting further illegal activity, asked the male driver for consent to search the vehicle, which was denied.

A K9 unit was called, and K9 Maverick performed an exterior sniff of the vehicle, alerting to the presence of narcotics. A probable cause search followed, resulting in the discovery of marijuana, approximately 23.86 grams of various THC products, approximately 1.4 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 2.3 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and a small amount of cocaine.

The driver, a 29-year-old from Austin, TX, was arrested and charged with multiple drug offenses. These include Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2 (THC), Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1/1-B (Methamphetamine), Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2 (Psilocybin), and Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1/1-B (Cocaine).
