New Braunfels Police Issue Warning Amidst Austin Opioid Overdose Outbreak

Following a surge in opioid overdoses in the Austin area this week, the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) is cautioning residents against consuming medications not prescribed by a doctor and distributed legally.

Over 50 overdose cases, resulting in 8 fatalities, were reported in Austin/Travis County on Monday and Tuesday. Officials suspect a potentially harmful batch of opioid-laced illegal narcotics is behind the spike. Illegal drugs often travel along major highways like I-35, heightening the risk of contaminated substances reaching New Braunfels.

NBPD advises parents to educate their children about the hazards of consuming pills or medications from unregulated sources and encourages individuals using illegal narcotics to seek assistance and avoid unidentified substances.

Anyone who is needing immediate medical attention should always call 911. Anyone who is struggling with opioid addiction or wants to learn more about the opioid crisis in Texas should visit https://txopioidresponse.org/resources.
