Officer Shot in Disturbance and in Critical Condition, Suspect Killed in Corpus Christi Incident

Chief Markle Gives Update on Shooting

On April 20, 2024, at 12:32 a.m., Corpus Christi Police officers responded to a disturbance call at the 5400 block of Burnham Dr. Shots were reported fired during the altercation involving a male and a female.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to locate the disturbance and encountered a 26-year-old male at the apartment door.

A struggle broke out when officers made contact with the suspect, who then produced a gun and shot one of the officers.

In response, another officer fired back, fatally striking the suspect.

The injured officer was rushed to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition.

As per department protocol, the involved officers will be placed on paid administrative leave.

UPDATE: On April 24th, the Corpus Christi Police Department announced that Officer Kyle Hicks had passed away.
