In La Salle County, Texas, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) made a significant discovery today during an Operation Lone Star traffic stop. On April 12, 2024, just past 9:00 A.M., DPS officials attempted to inspect a white-truck tractor hauling a flatbed trailer along Interstate Highway 35. However, the driver failed to comply and led authorities on a brief pursuit before abandoning the vehicle on foot, one mile north of the La Salle County Rest Area.
Upon investigation, law enforcement officers found 23 individuals concealed within the flatbed trailer's floor, lacking adequate ventilation. Among the group were 15 men, six women, and two juveniles originating from Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. Regrettably, one person required medical attention for dehydration and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital. Subsequently, all 23 individuals were referred to the U.S. Border Patrol.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and authorities are actively searching for the driver who fled the scene.
