Congressman Unveils 'Knowledge is Power' Initiative in San Antonio

Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) unveiled the Knowledge is Power project on April 6, 2024, in San Antonio’s East Side alongside local community leaders. The initiative, funded by $2,280,000 in Community Project Funding secured by Dr. Cuellar in FY23, aims to support K-12 students in the area with after-school educational resources.

The project offers a range of services including after-school tutors, access to computers, and school supplies to help students succeed academically. Additionally, it provides tailored professional support such as peer mentorship, skills development, and career preparation.

To maximize student engagement, these resources are available at 10 East Side churches.

"A quality education is essential for our children's success in the 21st Century. The Knowledge is Power project ensures East Side students have the necessary after-school resources to excel in the classroom," stated Dr. Cuellar. He credited State Representative Barbara Gervin-Hawkins and Dr. Raymond Bryant for their collaboration in bringing the project to fruition.

State Representative Barbara Gervin-Hawkins (District 120) praised Dr. Cuellar's commitment to education and acknowledged the project's significance for the East Side community, emphasizing its potential to create opportunities for students.

Dr. Raymond Bryant, Founder of the Beasley-Brown Community Development Corporation, expressed gratitude for Congressman Cuellar's leadership, highlighting the project's potential to positively impact the lives of students in the community.
