Two Arrested in Drug and Weapon Bust at Convenience Store

Early this morning, on Friday, April 12, 2024, at around 12:54 a.m., a deputy made a routine stop at a convenience store located in the 1100 block of East Main Street for fuel. While there, the deputy noticed a vehicle at the pump next to him, with a male driver entering the store quickly. Upon checking, it was discovered that the vehicle's registration had expired back in 2020, and a female was seated in the back.

The deputy engaged the male driver in conversation, during which the driver confessed to possessing a small amount of marijuana. Further investigation revealed that the female passenger had an outstanding warrant from Travis County. Subsequently, a search of the vehicle was conducted, leading to the discovery of approximately 1.77 grams of marijuana and a vape pen with a THC pod in the driver’s backpack.

More concerning items were found during the search, including a methamphetamine bong containing around 88.56 grams of green bong water, and a plastic container with methamphetamine concealed in a Whataburger sack. Additionally, two handguns were found, one of which was reported stolen from Ector County.

Both individuals, aged 42 and 38 and hailing from Austin, Texas, were placed under arrest. The driver faces charges including possession of controlled substances, possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The passenger, arrested for an outstanding DWI warrant, also faces charges related to possession of controlled substances.

Authorities seized the stolen handgun and communicated with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office regarding the matter.
