A fatal shooting occurred on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, around 11:17 p.m. at Fort Branch Apartments on 5800 Techni Center Drive in Austin, as reported by the Austin Police Department (APD). Responding to calls, APD officers, along with Austin-Travis County EMS (A/TCEMS) and the Austin Fire Department (AFD), arrived at the scene. Despite efforts to save him, 40-year-old Joe Santos Gonzales succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Specialists were dispatched to investigate the incident. According to their preliminary findings, Gonzales and the suspect, 47-year-old Isidro Sanchez Navarrette, were roommates and engaged in a verbal altercation before the shooting occurred.
As a result of their investigation, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force apprehended Navarrette, who has since been charged with First-Degree Murder. Navarrette is currently detained in the Travis County jail pending further legal proceedings.
