Traffic Stop Leads to Narcotics Arrests on East US Highway 290

A traffic stop conducted by a Gillespie County deputy on Friday, March 22, 2024, led to the discovery of narcotic contraband.

The deputy pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of East US Highway 290 and Ranch Road 1376 due to an expired registration. Upon contacting the vehicle occupants, a female driver and male passenger, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Subsequently, a probable cause search was conducted, revealing several LSD tablets, approximately 13 grams of psilocybin (mushrooms), about one ounce of marijuana, and marijuana smoking pipes.

Both occupants, a 27-year-old female and a 29-year-old male, both from Austin, TX, were arrested for possession of controlled substances. The charges include Possession of Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2 (between 4 grams and 400 grams) and Possession of Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1-A (less than 20 units).
