Violent Gang Members Arrested in Victoria Following Drive-By Shooting

Erasmo Garcia and Rico Macias Jr

In the early hours of Sunday, January 28, 2024, a residential area in the 3200 block of Cypress Street in Victoria became the scene of a shooting incident. At around 7:00 a.m., over thirty gunshots were fired at an occupied residence. Miraculously, no injuries were reported among the occupants.

A joint investigation was launched by the Victoria Police Department, the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Special Crimes Units, and the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force. The collaborative efforts of these agencies resulted in the identification of two suspects, both Hispanic males previously flagged as members of violent criminal gangs.

On Monday, January 29th, a breakthrough occurred during a routine traffic stop in the 1200 block of John Stockbauer Drive. The stop led to the arrest of Rico Macias Jr., 18, and Erasmo Garcia, 21, both residents of Victoria. Charges filed against the duo include Deadly Conduct: Discharge Firearm and Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair. Both suspects are currently in custody at the Victoria County Jail.

Sheriff Marr expressed appreciation for the seamless collaboration among the involved agencies. "It is because of these great working relationships that we were able to place these violent gang members in jail so quickly," he stated.
