The Kerrville Police Department has identified the suspect involved in a fatal wreck following a carjacking that occurred on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. The suspect has been named as Robbie Mario Ybarra, 46 years old, with an address in Bonham, Texas. Ybarra had an extensive criminal history dating back to 1995 and was released on parole from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in December 2022.

According to the ongoing investigation, Ybarra attempted two carjackings before successfully stealing a vehicle at gunpoint from the Sonic located at 1281 Junction Highway. Ybarra initially entered a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot at 1216 Junction Highway but was startled by a passenger in the vehicle. He then fled on foot to Wendy’s at 1220 Junction Highway, where he displayed a handgun to a person sitting in a parked vehicle and demanded the vehicle. The individual informed Ybarra that the keys were not in the vehicle, prompting Ybarra to run across the street to Sonic. There, he forced a driver from his vehicle at gunpoint before fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.

Kerrville spotted the stolen vehicle with Ybarra driving.  Ybarra collided with a pickup truck in the 1800 block of Sidney Baker North.  Ybarra was pronounced dead at the scene.

A handgun was recovered from inside the car that Ybarra had been driving. Notably, the handgun had not been reported as stolen. Kerrville Police Department detectives are actively working to determine how Ybarra came into possession of the firearm.

The Kerrville Police Department's investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
