An investigation is underway after a loss prevention officer was shot on Tuesday night at North Star Mall. The incident occurred just before 8:00 p.m. at Macy’s in the 7400 block of San Pedro Avenue.
According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), a man in his 40s and a woman were attempting to shoplift when a loss prevention officer confronted them at the breezeway entrance of the store. In the confrontation, the man shot the officer in the leg and then fled the scene.
Following the shooting, officers arrived at the scene and found the injured loss prevention officer inside a storage room. She was promptly transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
SAPD officials believe that the shooter re-entered the mall after the incident. As a precautionary measure, the SAPD evacuated the store, and officers, including K-9 units, conducted a thorough search of the area.
As of now, both the man and woman who attempted the shoplifting remain at large, according to SAPD. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
