The Kyle Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2025, on southbound I-35 near Yarrington Road.
According to authorities, 50-year-old Flavia Arzate Gomez of Austin had pulled over on the highway shoulder to adjust a tarp on her vehicle when she was struck by a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Gabriella Nicole Saurette of San Marcos. Gomez was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Beth Smith of Precinct 2.
Officers arriving at the scene observed signs of impairment from Saurette. She admitted to being in Austin’s 6th Street area and consuming alcohol prior to the crash. Saurette was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing.
