On May 15, 2024, at around 11:00 a.m., Clemens High School's School Resource Officer was contacted by the Bexar County Juvenile Probation (BCJP) regarding a student with a warrant for posting weapon images on social media. Upon contacting the student, a search of his backpack uncovered a loaded handgun. Consequently, the student was detained for Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon Prohibited Place Enhanced Weapon Free Zone, a 2nd-degree Felony Offense as it transpired on school premises.
Police Chief Jim Lowery reassured, "The Schertz Police Department prioritizes the safety of our children. This is an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community or students." There were no specific threats of violence towards students or staff. Chief Lowery acknowledged the effective collaboration with the school district in addressing safety concerns. He urged parents to engage with their children and promptly report any social media posts that could be perceived as threatening.
