Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Kerrville Man with Illegal Drugs and Firearm

On Friday, November 3, 2023, around 7:57 p.m., a Gillespie County Sheriff Deputy made a routine traffic stop in the 4000 block of South Ranch Road 783 due to a speeding violation. During the stop, the deputy noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, prompting further investigation.

The male driver of the vehicle was asked to step out by the deputy, and he willingly admitted to having a knife in his pocket. The driver granted permission for the deputy to remove the knife. In the process, the deputy observed a clear baggie containing a substance that was later identified as methamphetamine.

Subsequently, a probable cause search of both the vehicle and the driver was carried out. During the search, the deputy uncovered a substantial quantity of illegal substances and items. The items seized included approximately six (6) grams of cocaine, about 19 grams of methamphetamine, two THC vape pens, marijuana, 20 Lorazepam pills, and a .22 caliber handgun. Notably, the methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana appeared to be packaged for distribution.

The 30-year-old driver, a resident of Kerrville, Texas, was arrested on the spot. He now faces a range of charges, including Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 (cocaine and methamphetamine) with a quantity between 4 and 200 grams, Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2 (THC) with less than 1 gram, Possession of Marijuana exceeding 2 ounces but not more than 4 ounces, Possession of a Dangerous Drug (Lorazepam), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and No Driver’s License.
