A 16-year-old male from New Braunfels lost his life after going missing during a river outing at the New Braunfels Tube Chute on August 19, 2023.
Around 3:00 pm, authorities were alerted about a missing person at the Tube Chute area. The teenager had been swimming with family near the Tube Chute Dam when he disappeared, prompting an immediate response from river patrol officers.
After an extensive search, the missing teenager was discovered around 5:20 pm by other individuals near the Tube Chute Dam. They pulled him from the water, contacted emergency services, and initiated CPR. Paramedics from the New Braunfels Fire Department arrived and took over medical efforts.
The teenager was transported to Christus New Braunfels Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Out of respect for the family's privacy, the teenager's name has not been disclosed.
Preliminary investigations by the New Braunfels Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division suggest no signs of foul play and rule out alcohol as a factor. Detectives are examining whether an underlying medical condition may have contributed to the incident.
